A quality mobile windshield replacement follows the exact same clean-cut, prime, urethane, set, and cure process a shop uses. The difference is location, not procedure. What matters is the technician's process discipline and the materials used.
What proper mobile process looks like
- Clean, dry, level location out of rain and heavy wind
- Vehicle interior protected against debris
- Cut-out of old glass with proper tools, not shortcuts
- Correct primer on pinch weld and glass
- OEM-approved-equivalent urethane, correct bead pattern
- Set with alignment blocks, respecting cure time
- ADAS recalibration when required
Safe drive-away time (SDAT)
Every urethane has a manufacturer-published minimum safe drive-away time. This is a safety-critical spec — the urethane must reach a certain strength before the vehicle is safe to drive in a crash. A quality tech tells you exactly how long you should wait.
